AZLCV and AZLCV Education Fund are moving to our new offices in central Phoenix!
Beginning on June 15th AZLCV and AZLCV Education Fund are moving to central Phoenix. We have found a great new location at 825 N. 3rd Avenue in central Phoenix that we will be sharing with the Arizona Wilderness Coalition. We will now be located in a charming historic home, with fantastic meeting space. We know this will be a great new location to host events and meetings as well as a pleasant place to work.
We plan to be fully moved in by June 30th, hope to see you there sometime soon.
Earth Day at the Desert Botanical Gardens was a great success!
More than 300 AZLCV supporters gathered at the Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix on Sunday April 19th to celebrate Earth Day and "Arizona's History of Sustainability". Visitors toured the beautiful botanical gardens, got to chat with AZLCV staff and board members, bid on fabulous silent auction items and also visited exhibits focusing on Arizona's past, present and future sustainability practices.
Visit us again soon as we will be posting photos and more about our Earth Weekend celebrations

Arizona's new Legislature is now in full swing
Welcome to Arizona’s 49th Legislature, this year promises to be one full of surprises. With a brand new Governor and a Legislature that has changed significantly with November’s elections, combined with a 2 billion dollar budget deficit we hope that our state government can get right to work balancing Arizona’s budget and helping to make Arizona a state that will retain her natural heritage while securing habitability for generations to come.
In the 2008 elections we were saddened that we will not be seeing some old friends at the Legislature in 2009. Senator Tom O’Halleran in Prescott/Sedona will be missed this year, O’Halleran was a moderate Republican who understood many of the challenges that will face and are facing Arizona today. Representative Pete Hershberger lost his primary to conservative Captain Al Melvin in Tucson. Representative Hershberger was a two time winner of the AZLCV’s “Statesman of the Year” award for his work working with both Democrats and Republicans to further conservation goals. Freshman Representatives Jackie Thrasher in Phoenix and Theresa Ulmer in Yuma lost their re-election bids, we will miss their enthusiasm and steadfastness in the face of anti-conservation forces. We will also miss friends Pete Rios in Casa Grande, Jennifer Burns in Southern Arizona, and Steve Gallardo in Phoenix as they will not be returning this year.
2008 was not without victories for the environment however, several anti-conservation legislators were replaced by representatives who have pledged environmental responsibility and we will be looking to these representatives to move the conservation platform forward in the next two years.
Because this session we have fewer pro-conservation legislators to rely on, we will be relying on our membership this year more than ever, make sure you sign up to be an E-activist (under “Get Involved”) for the environment and follow this legislative session closely.
AZLCV's 2008 Scorecard: The "Silver Lining Session"
